Big Scoop for Small Scottish Accountancy PracticeKirkliston-based Walker Partnership (Scotland) LLP has just won the Institute of Financial Accountant’s prestigious award for ‘UK Accountancy Practice of the Year’ at an awards ceremony in London, where the likes of Dragon’s Den investor Theo Paphitis also scooped the award for ‘Contributing to UK Enterprise’.
The Institute of Financial Accountants (IFA) is an international professional body for accountants primarily serving small and medium business enterprises of which Walker Partnership (Scotland) is a member. The award-winning Walker Partnership (Scotland) beat off over 100 accountancy firms across the UK and won the coveted award for its innovative and proactive approach to providing accountancy services. It was also commended on the way it works in partnership with its clients and other service providers in assisting its SME client base. Duncan Walker, senior partner of Walker Partnership (Scotland) said: "We won the award because we go out of our way to provide the best service to our clients and live by our mission statement ‘where accuracy, honesty and value come first’ whilst providing a proactive, personal and fixed fee service. “As a small accountancy practice of two – it’s a tremendous achievement for us. I own and run the company with my wife and business associate, Susan. The big risk I took 12 years ago, resigning from a senior management position at The Royal Bank of Scotland was the correct decision and all the hard work we’ve put into building the business has been worthwhile and now recognised at the highest level. We are both floating on air at present about our award win.” IFA’s chief executive David Woodgate said: “The quality of entries for Accountancy Practice of the Year was extremely high and the judges had a difficult job deciding on the final winner. However the business approach demonstrated by Walker Partnership (Scotland) was innovative and creative. The judges liked the way in which this firm goes out and gets new business. The Walker Partnership (Scotland) also has an effective business model and a clear understanding of client needs; indeed it is very much a ‘client led’ practice – and for these reasons the panel was delighted to name Walker Partnership (Scotland) as the winner.” Walker Partnership (Scotland) provides a full range of accountancy services to SMEs in Scotland concentrating particularly within Edinburgh, the Lothians and Fife.
